starry_sea | Filk Recording of "Enterprise, Starship"

This is sort of dreadfully late, coming a month after the discussion post for The Wounded Sky, but I was moving across the country when that discussion took place so perhaps I have an excuse.

I loved the songs in the book so much and I was raised not only on Trek but also on John Denver. When I saw

melannen's request for a recording of "Enterprise, Starship" I couldn't resist making one.

I'd like to make another - I have a crazy idea about making a recording that sounds like a group sing, but so far it just sounds like two of me singing slightly out of tune with each other. *wry* If anyone's interested in that, please let me know!

I apologize for the clipping in a few places; I'm not working with real recording equipment, just Garage Band on my Mac. Credit is due to ProSound Studio Band for providing the karaoke track of "Calypso" I used; it is used without permission, but I have used it for its intended purpose and am not making any money off the use.

(What would be involved in doing a group sing? Everybody recording their voice against the recording, and then sending in the tracks, something along the lines of Playing for Change? I mean, I still can't carry a tune, but doing that as a group thing would be amazing.)

You are quite welcome! I don't think I'd have done it if you hadn't asked.

For the group sing, I think it would be best to collect recordings of individual voices so they could be put together without re-recording the background over and over. Maybe everyone who wants to participate could listen to the recording of me via headphones, so they recording of them singing along would only contain one voice. And then I could layer all the recordings together to make a group sing.

I promise not to reveal who sent me which track. ;)

(I also tried layering all three over yours in Audacity just for fun - you mostly drown me out, so it sounds not-half-bad. :D

If you're still interested in doing this, please to make a top-level post about it! The more voices hiding mine, the better. (And feel free to use me as an example. I taped my singing voice, I am resigned to humiliation. :P I can offer to do format conversions - even from tapes/etc - if you want.)

Do you mind if I re-host the original on my webspace to link in the source post (and maybe other places, with credit?)
